Navigation
To use the navigation feature, select a current route and start logging locally on the device. You can log remotely as well, but navigation is driven by the local navigation updates. Calculations are updated each time a local point is logged.
If you wish to use the watch for navigation, local logging must be running on
the watch using the Run on Watch
option. The phone will still show your
current location and whichever route is selected on the phone, but the phone
will not show any metrics about the route.
When you view the map, the currently selected route is displayed together with the locally logged track. See the Map documentation re showing your current location and heading.
By orientating the map to your heading, and viewing the route together with your track, you can determine the direction of your planned route.
Use the information
button (circle with lowercase i) to view
information about the route or to edit settings relevant to the route.
Cross Track Error and Off-Route Warnings
Cross track error is used to provide an off-route warning. When your current position is logged as being more than the set distance from the route, a warning is issued. Haptic feedback is used on devices that support it when the cross-track error exceeds the set threshold. An entry is also written to the activity log, for confirmation.
The warning is repeated each time your off-route distance is a multiple of the cross-track error threshold. I.e. If the warning is 20 metres, it is first activated when you exceed 20 metres, then above 40, then above 60 and so on. It is reset once your off-route distance is below 80% of the set threshold, e.g. 16 metres if the cross-track warning is set at 20 metres.
